How candidates are selected

While bearing in mind the ADB’s qualifying requirements and selection criteria, the academic institution will screen and rank the applicants according to its own standards. The academic institution may get in touch with the candidates to request more information during the review process. Following that, the academic institution will send ADB its ranked list of candidates along with an explanation of the scoring/grading methodology used to determine the rankings.

After reviewing the academic institutions’ submissions, ADB will recommend grantees to the Executive Director of Japan for formal approval based on ADB’s selection criteria.

ADB will provide academic institutions with recommendations for the selected applicants following approval by the Japan Executive Director.

The academic institution will inform all applicants of the outcome of the selection process and begin to make arrangements for the awardees take up their scholarships.

The academic institutions will arrange for the signing of the acceptance of scholarship award by awardee wherein the scholars agree that after completion of their study, they will return to their home country.

ADB will send an appropriate congratulatory letter to scholars through the university.
