Details For UN Nippon Foundation Fellowship:

The Nippon Foundation Strategic Needs Fellowship (UNNF) 2023 is offered by the United Nations. The UN Nippon Foundation Strategic Need Fellowship aims to help developing countries—in particular underdeveloped nations, developing island states, and landlocked, backward nations—address the urgent, strategic concerns affecting maritime affairs and the sea law with which they must contend. Also, it is intended to help the nations execute the UNCLOS, SDG 14 of the UN, as well as all other SDGs that are connected to it. A background in the marine industry would be highly valued among applicants. Candidates will have the chance to conduct research through the fellowship program. The top supervisors in the world will mentor fellows. Competent people from developing countries will have the opportunity to refine their thoughts and provide the greatest thesis results.

This international fellowship provides in-depth, highly specialized training on these topics with a focus on the areas where States have identified significant capacity barriers to government representatives from developing States who are in key positions in their administration but have little background in ocean affairs and the law of the sea. The Fellowship comprises a four-month training program at the UN Headquarters in New York’s Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea.

The United Nations and the Nippon Foundation, a non-profit organization with headquarters in Japan, have partnered to form the United Nations Nippon Foundation. The alliance strives to aid the UN’s initiatives to advance peace, human rights, and sustainable development. The Nippon Foundation donated money to the UNDP in 1990, which led to the creation of the United Nations Nippon Foundation (UNDP). Since then, the relationship has grown to encompass joint efforts with many UN organizations, including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS).

The United Nations Nippon Foundation provides funding for a variety of programs and initiatives, including those that promote disability rights, sustainable fisheries, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution. It also supports humanitarian assistance and disaster relief activities.
