NIAS is currently accepting applications for the Safe Haven Fellowship in the Netherlands. Eligibility Criteria:

• Candidates from groups boycotted by the Dutch government are not permitted to apply.
• NIAS invites outstanding scholars from Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Latin America.
• Prior to submitting a scientific proposal, candidates should have at least three years of research experience following their PhD.
• If a candidate is proposing a research project for journalism or the arts, they should be PhD holders. Research experience is not a prerequisite.
• Applicants should propose projects in the humanities or social sciences.
• Candidates must be fluent in both speaking and understanding English.

Benefits:

• A monthly stipend of €3,500 will be provided to fellows to assist with program-related expenses.
• Additional funding is available to fellows from low-income countries.
• Fellows will get accommodation on subsidized rates.

• During the fellowship time, fellows who are linked with Dutch universities will continue to receive their wage. They are eligible to apply for a €2,500 monthly Dutch University Grant.
• Fellows who live in Europe and are less than 500 kilometers from Amsterdam will receive one round-trip rail ticket.
• Fellows who reside in the Netherlands and are within a 90-minute one-way commute of the NIAS campus will be compensated for their daily travel costs.
• The cost of a second-class train ticket will also be covered.
• Fellows who reside 500 kilometers or more from Amsterdam, Europe, will get one round-trip ticket.
• Fellows will have access to library services.
• A return ticket will be provided to fellows who are not from the Netherlands.
• Fellows residing outside of Europe will get one return ticket as compensation.
