The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study for a period of one year at designated Japanese universities as Japanese Studies Students in order to deepen their understanding of the Japanese language, Japanese affairs and Japanese culture under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program as follows.

Eligibility For Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships:
At the time of entering and departing Japan, applicants must, in theory, be undergraduates at foreign (non-Japanese) universities.
- Candidates must be able to speak Japanese well enough to enroll in a Japanese university in Japan.
- By the end of the last month of the scholarship period, applicants must ensure that they return home and complete their studies in the undergraduate program at the institution in which they had registered at the time of their arrival in Japan.
- Applicants must submit an application form, academic transcripts from their present institution, and documentation attesting to at least a year of Japanese language study.
- Applicants should also submit a university enrollment certificate, Placement Preference Application Form, and recommendation from the university .
