Frank Evison Research Scholarship In Geophysics 2023 is offered for Masters, PhD degree in the field of Seismogenesis, Earthquake forecasting.
The application submission date is November 1, 2023. This scholarship is worth $15,000 in partial funding and is offered by Victoria University of Wellington. All citizens are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
History:
The award honors Emeritus Professor Frank Evison, who earned a BSc in physics and an MA with honors in mathematics from Victoria University of Wellington. From the University of London, he received a PhD. He joined the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research’s Geophysics Division, where he made the discovery of coal-seam-guided S waves, also known as Evison waves. He was named the University’s first Professor of Geophysics in 1967, and starting in 1988, he continued to teach classes as an Emeritus Professor. Professor Evison spent a significant portion of his career conducting research on earthquake predicting, which he did up until his passing.
