The Baxter Family Competition on Federalism, 2016, is organized by the Peter MacKell Chair in Federalism and the McGill University Faculty of Law.
This competition seeks to further legal scholars’ research and educate the global legal community on federalism.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students, as well as junior scholars, lawyers, or practitioners with five years of working experience or less, from anywhere around the world.
• To be eligible, authors must belong to one of the following categories:
  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in law or political science;
  • Hold a law or political science degree and have obtained their most recent degree after February 7th, 2020; or
  • Have been admitted to the Bar after February 7th, 2020.
• Papers may be co-authored, provided each author is eligible.

Submission Criteria:

• The essays submitted for the Baxter Family Competition on Federalism should be in English or French.
• The essays should not exceed 8000 words in English and 8800 words in French.
• The essays should be in a 12-point font, with 2.5 margins on the side, and double-spaced.
• The essays should contain a title, the author’s name, and contact, and the author’s eligibility statement.
• The essay should have an abstract (200 words) and should be submitted in the word format.
