An exception to the mobility policy may be requested by applicants who can demonstrate that they are unable to start their four-year PhD research with a research stay in Ghent. Before starting additional research, the southern partner, the university/research center, asks that students successfully complete a PhD program at their university.

A tuition charge of EUR 310 will be paid each month.
Operating costs and travel expenses for the Ghent University promoter, local promoters, and students will be covered by the 8,000 euro award.
Candidates must be citizens of a developing nation and be from one of the aforementioned nations.
Proposals must be submitted jointly by the candidate, a supervisor (promoter) at Ghent University, and a supervisor at the partner university.
More female researchers are encouraged to apply for this scholarship by Ghent University. Consequently, if two candidates are of different genders, a Ghent University supervisor may endorse two of them per call.
