Description: 

The University of Warwick’s Department of Politics and International Studies is happy to announce a PhD scholarship competition. These department-funded fellowships are intended for PAIS PhD candidates beginning their studies in October 2024 or for PAIS PhD candidates currently enrolled in their first year of study. Particularly women candidates are encouraged to apply, as women are underrepresented in this sector.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have obtained a Masters-level degree in a relevant subject area from a recognized institution of higher education by 30 September 2024.
  • Should have a strong undergraduate qualification in a relevant subject area, if possible.
  • Candidate must have the requisite standard of English.

How to Apply?

  • A PAIS application form. This is a requirement whether or not an offer has already been made.
  • Please note that the application form requires your Warwick ID number; if you have not yet received your Warwick ID, please substitute your application receipt number or leave this space blank and email your number to (paisphd@warwick.ac.uk) once you receive it.
  • A case for support, to be included within the application form.

An outline of your study and its theoretical foundation; this will be examined along with the whole research proposal that you submitted with your PhD application.
How your project relates to earlier and ongoing studies on the topic
The importance of your endeavor, whether it be practical, intellectual, etc.
The suggested approach and the reasons it works well for your project
How your project relates to your earlier experience and research
How your proposal aligns with the interests and pursuits of study of your potential supervisor
How your idea fits into one or more of the PAIS department’s research clusters

  • Failure to provide this above document will result in disqualification.
  • Two scholarship references. These references should comment specifically on a) the research potential of the candidate, b) the strength of the research proposal and project, and c) the potential contribution of the proposed research project to the literature and debate in the area chosen. You may use the same referees as for your Warwick application if you choose.
