Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants, in principle, must be undergraduates at foreign (non-Japanese) universities at the time of arriving in and leaving Japan.
- Candidates must be proficient in Japanese in order to be admitted to a Japanese university in Japan.
- In order to continue studying Japanese language and culture in the undergraduate program of the university they registered in when they arrived in Japan, applicants must make sure they return home by the conclusion of the last month of the scholarship period.
- An application form, academic transcripts from the current university, and documentation attesting to at least a year of Japanese language study are required of candidates.
- A Placement Preference Application Form, a certificate of university enrollment, and a university recommendation should also be submitted by applicants.
