A distinguished and vibrant program to foster the next generation of Asian leaders is the Asia Foundation Development Fellows program. This program, which is intended for exceptionally gifted people under 40, develops leadership abilities, broadens understanding of Asian development, and promotes exposure to other countries and professional networks.

This year-long professional development program includes short courses, conferences, and study tours in Asia and the U.S., expanding participants’ networks, expertise, and international exposure. Fellows typically remain in their current roles while engaging in program activities. Participants in the program, which is entirely funded and comes at no cost to them, must travel for two 10-day in-person modules.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Exhibit a high level of accomplishment together with a strong capacity for impact and career progress.
  • possess expertise in the areas of governance and law, economic development, women’s empowerment, the environment, and regional cooperation that are the focus of The Asia Foundation.
  • demonstrate exceptional morals, honesty, and leadership in their society and profession.
  • By January 1, 2026, be younger than 40.

The following elements made up the 2026 program:

Spring 2026: Study Tour & Leadership Development Program (Korea, April 19–25, 2026)

In addition to site visits to top development practitioners and innovators, fellows take part in interactive leadership modules with executive coaches and seminars on strategic thinking, wellness, and decision-making. The curriculum has a strong emphasis on managing change, addressing problems, and introducing creative leadership techniques. Previous study tours have traveled throughout Asia, offering a backdrop for examining theories of change and development strategies.

The Leadership Dialogue & Exchange Program will take place in the United States from September 28 to October 7, 2026.

Through policy talks, leadership workshops, and networking opportunities in San Francisco and an East Coast location, this 10-day program in the United States fortifies cohort links and cultivates global perspectives.

Award for Professional Development

Up to US$2,500 is awarded to chosen Fellows to support their unique leadership development objectives, which may include travel, language study, training, or other enrichment activities.

Mentoring & Coaching for Executives

A set number of one-on-one executive coaching sessions and customized mentorship are provided to fellows in order to improve their leadership and professional development.
