Students from underrepresented backgrounds can receive support for their chemistry studies through the Denis Henry Desty Undergraduate Scholarship program. The program was created in honor of Denis Henry Desty, a pioneer in the disciplines of chromatography and combustion research, who attended Southampton University to study chemistry in the 1940s.

Selection Criteria for Denis Henry Desty Undergraduate Scholarship :

• Financial need: We will prioritize students from under-represented backgrounds, who will benefit from financial support to allow them to focus fully on their academic studies.
• Academic ability: Students should demonstrate a very strong academic ability and the potential to be a high achiever whilst at university.
• Extra-curricular activity and leadership skills: We will look for well-rounded individuals who have the potential to excel beyond academia and inspire those around them.
• Work experience and career aspirations: We wish to select students who have ambitious career plans, which will use the chemistry and broader skills they develop throughout their degree.

Benefits of the Scholarship:

Students in our four-year MChem programs who meet the criteria below will have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship of £2,000 per year, for each year they are studying at Southampton.
