German Research Foundation (DFG) Heisenberg Programme 2026 In Germany

Eligibility:

• Applicants must have a habilitation or an equivalent qualification.
• Researchers who have completed the Emmy Noether Programme, hold DFG project staff positions, or have leadership experience in private-sector research or mid-level faculty positions are eligible.
• Junior professors who have received positive evaluations are also eligible.
• German researchers returning from abroad are eligible if they meet the other academic qualifications.
• International researchers with equivalent qualifications who wish to pursue their careers in Germany may also apply.
• Applicants should have a track record of outstanding research, demonstrated through publications, successful projects, and leadership in their respective fields.

Benefits:

• Heisenberg Position: Research position with funding at a German or international institution.
• Heisenberg Substitute Position for Clinicians: Funding for clinicians to take research leave while retaining their clinical role.
• Heisenberg Professorship: Temporary professorship with funding at a German university.
• Heisenberg Fellowship: 4,450 EUR/month for research with an additional material costs allowance.
