The PhD position available at Flinders University centers on the creation of advanced materials, including supramolecular cages and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), to enhance the extraction of toxic PFAS contaminants from water. PFAS, which are utilized in firefighting foams and manufacturing processes, present significant health hazards. The goal of the project is to improve the efficiency of PFAS removal, with a focus on short-chain PFAS. We are looking for a motivated PhD candidate with a background in chemistry, materials science, or related disciplines. Experience in organic synthesis, NMR spectroscopy, or supramolecular chemistry is preferred.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must meet the PhD admission requirements, including holding an Australian Honours degree (Class 1 or 2A) or an equivalent qualification (at least AQF Level 8), with a research component of at least six months of full-time study at a Distinction level (75%), OR provide evidence of equivalent research experience, such as a significant first-author refereed publication or a proven track record as an investigator on a competitive grant.
  • Candidates must also be available to begin full-time PhD studies at Flinders University (on campus) in semester 1, 2025.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities in supramolecular chemistry, materials chemistry, or a closely related field are required.
