The TU Research-Oriented Incoming Student Scholarship 2025 is available to students pursuing master’s degrees in a few of the university’s chosen fields. Your application must be submitted before October 20, 2025. The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) is offering this scholarship, which has a partial funding value that varies.

This scholarship is open to all except for Japanese citizens. The TU Research-Oriented Incoming Student Scholarship, provided by the Japan Student Services Association (JASSO), is available to graduate students from their home countries planning to conduct research at Tohoku University for a year. The scholarship’s value is declared by JASSO.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must be enrolled as normal graduate students at a home school that has a department-level or university-level student exchange agreement with TU. After completing their studies at TU, they will continue to be eligible to apply for degrees at their home institution.
  • Candidates have to be majoring in a natural science.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in one of the following departments at TU as either short-term visiting trainees or special research students:
  1. Advanced Medical School, Advanced Dental School, or Advanced Scientific School
  2. Graduate School of Engineering and Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
  3. The Graduate School of Information Sciences and the Graduate School of Agricultural Science
  4. Graduate School of Environmental Studies and Graduate School of Life Sciences
  5. Graduate Biomedical Engineering School
  • The duration of the applicants’ studies at TU must be at least 10 days and not more than 12 months.
  • All requirements outlined in the “JASSO Scholarship Eligibility Conditions” must be met by applicants.

How to Apply:

  • Send all necessary application materials to a potential TU academic advisor. Applications will not be accepted directly from applicants to TU’s Student Exchange Division. Even if the candidate has already visited Japan, late applications will not be accepted.
  • The TU department in which the applicants plan to enroll determines the application deadline. For more information, speak with a potential TU academic advisor.
