The GERDA HENKEL Fellowships are currently accepting applications. This program, which is provided by the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS Sofia), intends to support vital historical research in the humanities and social sciences. PhD holders are eligible for these fellowships, which are offered as part of the CAS Advanced Academia program and offer five-month in-residence possibilities.

Fellows get material and intellectual support in addition to participating in the Center’s scholarly community and utilizing its international networks, workshops, and guest lectures. CAS Sofia also manages practical matters related to research, residency, and travel in Sofia. CAS Sofia is an independent organization that promotes cutting-edge social science and humanities research, with its headquarters located in Sofia, Bulgaria. It allows outstanding scholars to work on their own ideas by offering fellowships for stays of up to five months.

Eligibility Requirement:

  • Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China (including the Tibet and Xinjiang Autonomous Regions), Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine, or Uzbekistan are among the countries in which applicants must be nationals.
  • Academic Requirement: Candidates must hold a PhD in the social sciences or humanities.
  • Research Experience: International research experience is required for participation in projects and refereed conferences.
  • Publications: Writing for peer-reviewed scholarly journals will be seen as a big plus.
  • Age Preference: Priority will be given to applicants under 45.
