The 2025 Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is available for master’s degrees in a few university-selected fields.
The deadline for your application is February 28, 2025. The scholarship is being offered by the World Bank and comprises full funding, tuition, airfare in economy class, a travel stipend of USD 600, and a monthly sustenance allowance. This fellowship is awarded to people of particular underdeveloped countries.

The JJ/WBGSP offers master’s programs in development-related subjects to citizens of specific poor countries who have previously supported their governments’ development efforts and possess the necessary professional experience. Subject to funding availability, JJ/WBGSP offers scholarships for 52 Participating Master’s Programs at 27 universities in the US, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan in critical development domains such infrastructure management, tax policy, and economic policy management.

Eligibility:
- Applicants must be nationals of one of the selected developing nations.
- Applicants may not hold dual citizenship with any developed nation.
- Applicants must be in good health.
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree from at least 3 years before the application deadline.
- Applicants must be employed in development-related work at the time of applying for the scholarship.
- Applicants must have a minimum of three years of professional experience since obtaining the bachelor’s degree.
- Applicants must hold an unconditional offer of admission to one of the eligible programs.
- Applicants cannot be an Executive Director, their alternate, any staff member of the World Bank Group, or a relative by blood or adoption, including immediate family members like mother, father, sister, brother, half-siblings, children, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew.
- Applicants who turned down a JJ/WBGSP scholarship before or didn’t finish it can’t apply again.
Application Process:
All eligible candidates must apply online to be considered for the scholarship. The application should include the following components:
- Documentation that the applicant has the right amount of recent experience in development work to be eligible.
- Bachelor’s degree diploma, and if applicable, the diploma of the applicant’s most advanced graduate degree.
- C.V. using the format provided in Annex 4 and written in English.
- Unconditional letter of admission to the eligible program.
Benefits of the Scholarship:
The successful candidates are awarded the following benefits:
- Economy class flights from the home to the university and back during the study program and after the scholarship ends.
- Scholars will also get a US $600 travel allowance for each trip.
- Tuition for the graduate program.
- Cost of basic medical insurance obtained through the university.
- A monthly subsistence allowance to cover all living expenses (accommodations, food, etc., including books).
